The Opposition Manager - Northern Ireland VS Germany
Opposition Manager: Northern Ireland vs Germany
GERMANY: JOACHIM LOW
World Cup-winning boss Low, now 57, is in his 11th year as Germany manager and the country’s longest-serving coach since Helmut Schoen, who spent 14 years in control.
Low was also assistant manager for two years under Jurgen Klinsmann before taking over after the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006.
A former West Germany Under-21 international, Low began his senior dugout career as a player-coach with FC Frauenfeld before becoming assistant at VfB Stuttgart and then replacing Ralph Fringer as manager in 1996. Further spells with Fenerbahce, Karlsruher, Adanaspor, Tirol Innsbruck and Austria Vienna followed.
In 2004, he got the call from Jurgen Klinsmann to become his assistant with the German national team. Two years later, when Klinsmann stepped down, Low was named Germany head coach and guided the nation to their fourth World Cup triumph at Brazil 2014.
