Now 63, Kozak successfully led Slovakia to their first European Championship finals in 2016 after finishing as runners-up to Spain in their group. In 1981, Kozak was named footballer of the year in Czechoslovakia. He played 254 matches in the Czechoslovakian league, scoring 57 goals.
He was also a member of the Czechoslovakian team that reached Euro 1980 and the 1982 World Cup, where he scored in the penalty shoot-out to determine third place, with the Czechs beating hosts Italy 9-8 in Naples.
In 1993, he began his coaching career with Slovak club Lokomotiva Kosice before joining rivals VSS Kosice. He left in 1997 but returned a year later. Another Slovakian team, Michalovce, was his next stop before joining Licartovce, in 2004.
After a year there, he returned to Kosice for another four years. He left in 2009 but returned for a fourth spell in 2012. In July 2013, he was named Slovakia’s manager.
