We've Met Before - England Vs Lithuania
ENGLAND v LITHUANIA: WE’VE MET BEFORE
England have won all their previous three meetings with Lithuania and have yet to concede a goal against the Baltic nation.
The 2-0 home victory in March brought a positive conclusion to Gareth Southgate’s first game at Wembley since succeeding Sam Allardyce on a permanent basis. It took Jermain Defoe just 21 minutes of his first international appearance since 2013 to break the deadlock, before Jamie Vardy doubled the Three Lions’ lead on 66.
The only other time the two nations have met was during the previous qualification campaign, for Euro 2016.
The first-ever meeting at Wembley in March 2015 was a magical occasion for Harry Kane, who scored just 79 seconds into his debut. The Tottenham marksman came off the bench to add England’s fourth and final goal on 73. Wayne Rooney had got England off to the perfect start by heading his 47th goal for his country after just six minutes before Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling, his first for England, struck either side of half-time.
Just seven months later, a 3-0 win in Vilnius ensured England became only the sixth team ever to qualify for the European Championship by winning every match. Ross Barklay opened the scoring on 29 for Roy Hodgson’s experimental side before a Giedrius Arlauskis own goal and an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain effort completed the scoring and made it ten wins out of ten.
