Barnardo’s and Vauxhall Motors join forces to give young football fans the opportunity of a lifetime
Six lucky young football fans were chosen to represent their country as flag bearers at the Wales v Serbia game at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 12th November.
As part of Vauxhall Motors’ sponsorship of the national football teams; England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – the football fanatics were singled out by Barnardo’s – the UK’s largest children’s charity to take part in this special occasion.
As flag bearers, Mason, Morgan, Leuan, Thomas and Brodie, all from Llantwit Major, and Scott from Bridgend, were guests of Cardiff City Stadium and Vauxhall Motors where they walked through the tunnel, onto the pitch alongside the Wales football team. Representing their nation, they were tasked to hold their national flag during the national anthems.
Speaking before the game about the opportunity, a parent of Leuan said, “Leuan is really looking forward to the flag bearing, he’s told everyone thank you so much for organising it for him.”
Before the big game the children were extremely excited with one of them saying, “I am really excited about being a flag bearer. I love football, thank you. I’ve bought an autograph book.”
Many of the children were also keen to see Gareth Bale, with one child saying, “My favourite player is Gareth Bale. I play for Sully Football Club and when I grow up I would like to be a professional footballer.” Another child shared the same excitement, “Thank you for choosing me, I’m so excited! I support Wales and Manchester United. I’m most looking forward to seeing Gareth Bale; he’s got good pace and loads of good skills.”
Andrew Curley, Head of Sponsorship and Events, Vauxhall Motors said; “At Vauxhall Motors we look to bring people together through our sponsorship of our national football teams. Football is a game which unites people whatever their background and we’re delighted to offer this opportunity to Mason, Morgan, Leuan, Thomas, Brodie and Scott into Cardiff City Stadium who I’m sure will proudly represent Wales and go home with an experience they’ll never forget.“
Barnardo’s believes in children regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour. Their purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children. They believe that every child deserves the best start in life and the chance to fulfil their potential.
Eleri, a member of the Barnardo’s staff said, “On behalf of Barnardo’s we would like to thank you for choosing our charity for flag bearing. The children are going to gain such a massive confidence boost from such an amazing opportunity. The children we have put forward are massive football fans, they are so excited and they will gain such positive memories from this.”
