Vauxhall provide VIP package for brave Scotland supporter
Scotland supporter Debbie Duncan enjoyed a VIP evening at Hampden Park, after Vauxhall, the Scotland team sponsor, and the Scottish FA teamed up to grant her Bucket List request.
Mrs Duncan, from Dundee, has followed the Scotland team home and away with her husband Mark for many years, but has not been able to attend regularly in recent times after being diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago.
Recently, Mrs Duncan was told she had stage four metastatic cancer. After receiving the news, Debbie expressed her wish to be part of the matchday experience surrounding the Scotland team and her husband Mark duly got in touch with the Scottish FA.
As part of the ‘Surprise and Delight’ theme within the Vauxhall #GetIN campaign, Vauxhall subsequently arranged for a driver to pick the Dundee couple up from their home in Dundee, and complimentary tickets were provided for the Scotland v Lithuania fixture to ensure the couple had a night to remember.
Former Scotland manager Craig Brown, the last man to lead the country to a tournament back in France 98, was on hand at Hampden Park to greet the couple as part of the ‘Surprise and Delight’ event.
The couple were looked after by Craig pre-match in the Millenium suite, where they also met former manager Walter Smith, another hero of Mrs Duncan.
Mr and Mrs Duncan were then taken pitch side by the Scottish FA as the two teams made their way onto the pitch, before settling down to watch the match after the national anthems had finished.
Cheryl Stibbs, Sponsorship Marketing Manager at Vauxhall said: “When we received news of the message from Mr Duncan, we were only too happy to grant the wish and ensure that they both had an evening to remember.
“We are also grateful to the Scottish FA for their help and hopefully this experience has provided Debbie with a special moment.”
Mr Duncan said: “We have followed Scotland home and away for many years but had to drastically cut back a few years ago.
“Debbie made a bucket list of the things she would like to do and this was top of that list, we can’t thank everybody enough for this experience.”
