Young cancer patients get England football day to remember
Five children from the Barrie Wells Trust had the best seats in the house as England took on Malta at Wembley, after Vauxhall, the England team sponsor, donated a hospitality suite to the registered charity.
The children, all from London hospitals, had the opportunity to watch England’s World Cup qualifier against Malta whilst enjoying full VIP treatment in the Vauxhall hospitality suite at Wembley.
The Barrie Wells Trust’s Box4Kids initiative invites seriously ill children to enjoy VIP treatment in executive boxes at major sporting and entertainment events.
Founded in 2009, the charity now collaborates with over 100 companies and box holders in 70 venues across the UK to provide experiences across nine different sports plus entertainment. The scheme helps seriously ill children to enjoy VIP treatment at major sporting events.
The five young people, aged 8-16, have all been diagnosed with various forms of cancer, such as lymphoma, melanoma and neuroblastoma, as well as arthritis.
Evelina’s Pride at Evelina’s Children’s Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital and the CLIC Sargent charity helped to select the children on behalf of the Trust.
Vauxhall also supported the Trust earlier this year with a hospitality box at the Stadium of Light for the England friendly against Australia before Euro 2016.
Barrie Wells, Chairman of the Barrie Wells Trust, said: “We are most grateful to Vauxhall for their great generosity, which again has enabled us to invite deserving children to watch their England heroes play.
“Wembley really is something out of the ordinary and the experience will provide the kids with some very special memories for life.”
Cheryl Stibbs, Sponsorship Marketing Manager at Vauxhall said: “We were delighted to support such a great cause and only too happy to provide the Barrie Wells Trust with one of the Vauxhall hospitality boxes at Wembley.
“The Barrie Wells trust gives ill children the opportunity to attend major sporting events and hopefully everybody enjoyed the experience of seeing England win at Wembley.”
